If you aren’t in the mood to draw and paint but still would like to do some fun crafting with your kid, then paper collage crafting is the way to go! This is a great crafting option especially if you have old magazines or brochures lying around that you don’t need anymore. Don’t throw them out just yet, they make great paper collage crafts!
To get started, all you need are:
The beauty of making paper collage crafts is that there’s no limit to what you can do with it, creativity-wise.
For instance, you can encourage your kid to create collage art decoration for their bedroom wall using white canvas cloth and coloured fabrics in lieu of paper. After cutting the coloured fabrics in the desired shapes and sizes and sticking them onto the white canvas cloth, you can help your child to frame their masterpiece before hanging it on the wall.

Is there a family member’s birthday coming up soon? Instead of buying a birthday card, take this opportunity to create a unique collage-style birthday card for your loved one! All you need are a manila card, washi tape, coloured paper/old magazine, marker and ribbon.

Alternatively, if your child loves experimenting with watercolours, you can also combine two artistic projects to create one beautiful masterpiece by creating a watercolour artwork first and cutting them up to be pasted on a white piece of paper. You can also paste your watercolour cut-outs on another watercolour-decorated paper if you think that a white background is too boring and common.

Layered collage using vellum paper can also result in a beautiful artsy effect. Simply cut the coloured vellum papers into your desired shapes – abstract or otherwise – and layer them over each other on a piece of white paper. The result is simply marvellous! Vellum paper collages also make for a beautiful DIY greeting card, thanks to its soft and romantic feel.

Creating collage paper artwork is immensely fun and rewarding! It can also be a group project for the whole family to work on and be proud of at the end of the day. The best part about paper collage artwork is that it can be very simple; simple enough for your toddler to do, or it can be a bit more advanced, if you’re an adult who’s into creating your own artwork decor pieces.
The above paper collage artworks are among some of the things we create on a regular basis in our arts classes at Artz Graine.
