If you have extra space at home for your kids’ playtime, why not dedicate it as an art room as well? Children can use the designated art room whenever they feel the impulse to create, which encourages their creativity and helps them destress from schoolwork. The art room is an area where children can do their cardboard sculpture projects or do their drawings whenever they feel inspired.
The art room is a room filled with motivating creative art tools. If you don’t know how, here are six ways to set up an art room for your kids:
Create an art desk specifically for your kid’s project, stock it with paper and drawing supplies, and add additional supplies as needed. More art supplies can be kept in an adjacent drawer or shelf.
Young children deliver their best artistic masterpieces while standing up. To give them a chance to express themselves in this way, you can use a table-top easel, a wall-mount easel, or a free-standing children's art easel.
You can leave a canvas, paper, and other supplies out on an easel. Put chalk on the reverse's chalkboard, if it has one.
Having a place to paint is wonderful – this could be the same as items number 1, 2, or 4. If having a designated painting space is not possible due to space constraints, think about scheduling occasional painting sessions at a different spot each time.
Utilise a location that you are okay with getting dirty or that is simple to clean (such as the kitchen, utility room, porch, garage, or basement). Alternatively, if the weather permits, simply move the painting activity outside.
If desired, spread newspapers or a drop cloth to catch paint drips. If your child is small, you can set up the painting area and bring out the paint when they are ready to use it rather than leaving out the paper, paint, and brushes.
When creating art, think about using the great outdoors, particularly during the sunnier weather. A table and chair can be brought outside, or an easel might be put up. Being outside has the added benefit of making you less worried about the mess. If you like, you can also set up a playdate at the park with your kids and their friends. They can play and experiment with art to their hearts’ content here!
Set up a pad of paper, drawing supplies, stickers, etc., in an art caddy, box, basket, or art cart so your child can use it whenever and wherever she wants – whether at the kitchen table, the floor, or in the car. Keep the portable caddy close at hand whenever inspiration strikes.
We advise creating separate areas for play and school. Children must be able to refresh and refocus with creative artistic activities. At the end of the day, they require the same amount of time away from work as adults. If you have a spare room, consider converting it into a place for creativity, learning, and exploration.
If you're short on space, decluttering is usually the first step in finding fresh space for kids. Until you get rid of a few things, you might not even realise where you have space.
Having a separate space for your kids to get creative is important to allow their creativity to bloom and for them to destress from their schoolwork. Make sure that the space is set up to inspire, and as it is an art space for kids, it’s also important for the space to have a surface that’s easily cleaned as well.
